│ This is a VENDINFO Product Information Record │
│ │
│ This record is a means of conveying information about a software │
│ product from the author to distributors and users. It contains a │
│ normal, "human-readable" section (you're reading it now), followed │
│ by a compressed data record. The data record contains a great │
│ deal of information in a form useable by automated tools. This │
│ allows BBSes, disk vendors, etc. to test automatically for │
│ permission to distribute, and to automatically extract product │
│ information for use in BBS files databases, vendor catalogs, etc. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO file standard is published and is freely useable. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO toolset includes a free end-user viewer, processing │
│ tools for use by distributors (BBSes, shareware disk vendors, │
│ etc.), and the editor used by author/publishers to produce these │
│ records. These tools are either free or very-low cost shareware. │
│ The toolset can be obtained from many sources, including the │

===== Information for Users ("READ-ME") ================
Latest News
BACK SOON!
Version 2.0
Welcome to BACK SOON! Version 2.0, the message-taking utility for
the busy home or office. Here is the latest news and other important
information regarding the program.
USING BACK SOON! ON A NOVELL NETWORK
Back Soon! will run on a Novell Network. To prevent broadcast
messages from the network server from interfering with Back Soon!,
temporarily disable them by typing CASTOFF ALL from the command line
before running Back Soon! To re-enable the messages, use the command
CASTON after exiting Back Soon!
USING BACK SOON! WITH OTHER PROGRAMS
If you use WordPerfect 5.1, Quattro Pro 3.0 to 5.0, or WordStar 7.0,
macros are provided on the program disk for automatically running Back
Soon! from within these programs.
Back Soon! is simple to use from within almost any program, with
or without a predefined macro. Simply choose your applications "Shell
to DOS" command (this may be called something like "Run a DOS command"
or "Go to DOS") and specify Back Soon! as the command to be executed.
If your application sends you to the DOS command line, start Back Soon!
as you normally would, then type EXIT at the command line when you have
finished using Back Soon! You'll be returned directly to your applicat
ion.
TELEPHONE SUPPORT
Tay-Jee Software's telephone support number has changed. The new
number is (703)261-7023.
Notes for Back Soon! Version 2.0:
Version 2.0 adds three major enhancements -
- Graphics. In addition to scrolling a message and playing simple
melodies, Back Soon! can now display virtually ANY type of graphics
or animation. See the file APPENDIX.TXT for details. The shareware
version includes two sample animation sequences produced with AutoDesk
Animator; the registered version includes additional animation. Add-
on graphic images (scenery, celebrities, etc.), animation, and even
customized scans of your own photos are available from Tay-Jee Softwar
e.
Call for more details.
- Event Scehduler. Back Soon! can now perform unattended tasks such as
tape backups, Email transfers, etc., while you are away through the
Event Scheduler. See the file APPENDIX.TXT for additional instruction
s.
- Multilingual Support. Back Soon!'s text message system has been
adapted for multilingual use. Currently, Spanish and German are
supported; additional languages are palnned for future release.
For language support files, contact Tay-Jee Software.
Notes for Back Soon! Version 1.5:
Version 1.5 adds two major enhancements -
- Music. In addition to scrolling a message, Back Soon! v1.5 now
has the ability to play simple musical selections. To activate
the music feature, add the switch "/u" to the command line at
startup. The music files (extension .CM1) included on the
archive should be located in the Back Soon! directory. When
the music feature is activated, Back Soon! will alternate scrolling
your message down the screen and playing, at random, one of the
musical selections included, until a key is pressed.
- User Menu. After entering your message retrieval code, you now
have numerous options instead of simply reading your messages and
exiting the program. You can simply check your messages and leave
Back Soon! running, temporarily go to DOS, change the scrolling
screen message, or toggle music on and off as well.
Version 1.1 adds two minor features -
- the scrolling message now is displayed within a box, instead
of a bunch of ragged lines
- the message nows scrolls faster if you're using an MDA or
Hercules video mode (monochrome monitors are usually more
susceptible to phosphor burn-in)
On-line registration via CompuServe
You can now register Back Soon! on-line via CompuServe. The registratio
n
fee of $20 will be added to your CompuServe bill. To register, type GO
SWREG at any prompt. Register the program under ID# 229.
IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE RUNNING BACK SOON! AND ARE USING DOS 5.00:
The MIRROR program, when loaded as a TSR, conflicts with Back Soon!
Most often this manifests itself as a loud continuous tone when trying
to enter a message, after which the Back Soon! locks up.
A solution to this problem is to unload MIRROR just prior to starting
Back Soon! Use the command
MIRROR /U
You must make sure that MIRROR is the last TSR to be loaded, and be sure
to re-load MIRROR after exiting Back Soon!

===== Installation =====================================
To conserve disk space and download time, the shareware version does not
utilize the installation routine described in the documentation.
No special installation is required, however, so manual installation is
quite simple.
All you have to do is copy the program files to a directory on your hard
drive. It is recommended that this be a directory that is on your DOS
PATH.
Once the files are copied, merely execute BS.EXE to begin the program.
PIX PAX
If you like BACK SOON!'s custom animation and graphics, you'll love
Tay-Jee Software's PIX PAX graphics collections. Priced from $8.95 to
$14.95, each collection contains two to four disks of high-resolution,
SVGA .GIF images. Each pack also contains a copy of PALANTIR, our
handy .GIF/.PCX file viewer, and all the necessary installation files
to add the images to BACK SOON!'s open-architecture graphics system.
Each package is organized around a common theme, including movie
stars, stunning nature scenes, and NASA space images. New packages are
being added all the time! Call 1-800-378-3966 (703-261-7023) to order
or to find out more about our PIX PAX clip art packages!
===== Warranty =========================================
DISCLAIMER
The program described in this documentation is guaranteed
to do absolutely nothing! It has, however, in my experience
performed essentially as described herein. The author will
not be responsible for any loss or damages caused through
the use of these programs. No warranty, express or implied,
is provided for this software's performance, merchantability,
or fitness for a particular purpose.

===== License for Use and Distribution =================
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISTRIBUTION LIMITATIONS: This is a copyrighted shareware
program. You have a limited license to try out this soft-
ware on a single computer for a period of 45 days. If you
continue to use the software after this 45-day trial period,
you must become a registered user.
The program and documentation are Copyright 1991-1994 by Chuck
Steenburgh & Tay-Jee Software. You are encouraged to distribute
these programs provided the conditions specified in the
VENDINFO.DIZ file are met.
You may evaluate this program for up to 45 days on a free
trial basis. After 45 days, you should register your use of
the program. The registration fee is $19.95, payable to Tay-Jee
Software at the address given below. Please see the file
REGISTER.FRM on the distribution disk/archive.
Registration does have its advantages:
- We are improving the program all the time. Registration
will get you IMMEDIATELY a disk with the latest version.
- You will receive additional animation, still images, and
a .PCX/.GIF file viewer for displaying the still images
- While we can't promise to include everyone's suggestions
in program updates, you can bet we'll listen to registered
users before any of you scrounges out there.
- You will also get evaluation copies of our other shareware
products, including:
* STEENBURGH's STUFF batch file utilities
* Power C Shell programmer's interface
* 6th SENSE utilities for DOS 6.00
* MARGARINE easy text file formatting utility
